How to solve RSS Feed error – Input is not proper UTF-8, indicate encoding !

Few days back suddenly my RSS Feed button stopped working. It was showing errors, when anyone tried to click on rss feed button for subscription.

As clearly shown in error that Input is not proper UTF-8.Though it was evident that the error is because of some character in some post is not following UTF-8 encoding.UTF-8 is a variable-width encoding that can represent every character in the Unicode character set.

I tried to look out for answers on google and could not find any relevant and straight forward solutions. So I though to put the simplest solution here.

The problem here is W3C feed validation. This happens when a blogger writes articles in wordpad, notepad or microsoft word and copies it to wordpress post.

The first thing one should always enable in wordpress is correction of  ” invalidly nested XHTML”

Go to Dashboard > settings > writing and select “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and then click on “save changes”.

Hold on this may not solve the problem, this option only makes sure that invalid nested XHTML gets corrected automatically when you are writing/publishing your post.

To solve this issue go to http://validator.w3.org/feed/ and check your website url.It will show the line no and post for which the error was being shown.Go to the line number and correct the line in a particular post shown.

Once all errors are corrected above message will get displayed saying your feed is valid. Now go to your website and click on RSS button it should start working.
